3.1 Operating principle

Two metal armatures of surface area S placed face to face at a distance d from each other form a planar capacitor (figure 17 ) of capacitance : $C = ε \frac{S}{d}$

ε is the permittivity of the interelectrode space and is equal to :

$ε_{0} = \frac{1}{36 π \times 10^{9}}$
