2. Air-to-ground modes
This section describes the main modes used by airborne radar to detect objects on the ground.
For the reasons described below, ground objects are processed by two main families of modes:
a first family for fixed objects ;
a second family for mobile objects.
Some of the modes described are the subject of specific, more detailed articles, to which we refer.
2.1 Fixed object detection modes
In this section, we deal with the detection of fixed objects, i.e. at the same speed as the ground echoes surrounding them. Within this family of modes, the two most commonly used are described here:
