2.1 Definition of geophysics
Applied geophysics is the discipline of studying (observing, measuring) a physical field on the ground surface or in cavities dug into the ground. This physical field, whose origin may be natural or induced, depends on one or more parameters characteristic of the materials whose distribution in the ground is to be determined.
This definition is not immediately clear if you don't have an example of the method in mind. It will become clearer once you have read the following paragraphs and, in particular, the synoptic table 1 .
