1. Context
Azimuth: direction of a source in relation to north (azimuth = bearing + heading).
Heading: angle of the platform axis to North.
Event: in sonar, a local maximum of energy at the output of a channel formation that has exceeded the detection threshold. It is the events detected that feed the extraction. The radar equivalent is called a plot.
Extraction: algorithm for temporal association of detected events to create tracks. It includes an initialization phase, track maintenance and track termination (synonym: ADT for automatic detection and tracking).
