6. Recommendations for Implementation

6.1 Step-by-step roadmap

ISO/IEC 42001 is based on the harmonized structure. The standard states in its introduction that “adopting an AI management system is a strategic decision for the organization” and recommends a risk-based approach, allowing the level of control to be tailored to specific use cases.

An organization seeking to establish a structured approach to AI risk management can follow a five-step process aligned with regulatory requirements.
