In 2014, Vitalik Buterin, a 20-year-old Russian-Canadian with a passion for Bitcoin and blockchain in general, finalized a first version of the Ethereum protocol , and raised $19 million via Bitcoin to finance the project. Its aim was to overcome the limitations of Bitcoin, which had been designed exclusively for monetary applications.
