9. Conclusion

Distributed databases are an attractive solution for mastering the distribution of computing resources across several interconnected processors.

At present, commercial systems offer certain functionalities without always achieving the transparency of distribution desired by the user.

However, in addition to the complexity of the techniques used and the sometimes disappointing performance (compared to the response times of certain centralized systems), there are other pitfalls holding back the development of distributed databases.

Indeed, the current heterogeneity and lack of compatibility of hardware and software within the same company make the implementation of an RDBMS particularly tricky. Consequently, the advent of such a system can only be a long and gradual process, which should start with a collective awareness...
