6. Initialization model

Here, we analyze the characteristics of initialization for Java programs on the one hand, and embedded systems on the other, and explain how to reconcile the two approaches. For the sake of clarity, we will describe the execution of a software component in terms of the following three phases:

  • loading phase: the software is placed where it is to be run;

  • start-up phase: initializations are carried out ;

  • active phase: services are available and can be executed on demand.
