10. Format Posit
The UNUM (Universal Numbers) format was introduced by J.L. Gustafson in 2015 with the aim of overcoming limitations of the IEEE 754 floating format. After the UNUM 1 and UNUM II types, which had a number of problems, the UNUM III type, known as the Posit format, was introduced in 2017 . As of 2022, there are no hardware implementations of this format apart from experiments on FPGAs. Several software libraries have been developed for this format, and a Posit working group has defined a standard for Posit arithmetic
