4.1 General structure of a transaction monitor

A transactional monitor has a number of tasks to perform, some of which are in close cooperation with the underlying operating system. Among the most important are :

  • scheduling of work to be carried out on the various servers: the techniques used must, among other things, allow a high degree of flexibility so as to multiply the available resources as much as possible and thus increase system throughput;

  • management of different server classes and overall system load control (process server, memory server, queue server, etc.);

  • authentication and access rights management services, which are implemented each time a connection...
