Providing cross-domain services with strict guarantees has always been a challenge for the parties involved. Even if some of these services have been around for a few years, the time it takes to produce and put them into operation is measured in weeks, if not months, depending on their scope and complexity.

The introduction of automation techniques based in particular on SDN architectures and the exploitation of artificial intelligence techniques capable of dynamically negotiating the parameters of an inter-domain service are likely to significantly improve production time.
