6. What does the future hold for TEI?

Technically, the future of TEI doesn't seem to pose any problems. As we said, the TEI DTD has been designed rigorously enough to support eventual conversion to XML without too much trouble. XML adaptations already exist for TEI Lite, the simplified version of TEI mentioned in the introduction.

In terms of usage, it should be noted that TEI has been adopted by a significant part of the Anglo-Saxon scientific community (a detailed list of projects implementing TEI can be found at http://www.uic.edu/orgs/tei/ ), but is still relatively little used in the French-speaking world. However, this situation is likely to change, as shown by some recent initiatives (Projet Silfide http://www.loria.fr/projets/XSilfide/...
