4. Impacts of Using a Corporate VPN

Setting up a VPN between two sites, or between a mobile device and a site, is supposed to make access to resources located at the destination site seamless, but this isn't entirely true because using a VPN can have some consequences.

4.1 MTU adjustment and fragmentation

Setting up a VPN involves encapsulating the original data into a new packet and adding a header specific to the protocol being used. However, the amount of data that can be transmitted in a single packet is limited to a value that depends heavily on the medium used. The value known as the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is generally used.
