2. Eastman process

The process developed by Eastman uses a rhodium catalyst, in the presence of iodine and other co-catalysts.

Acetic anhydride is produced industrially by carbonylation of methyl acetate (3) :

CO + {CH}_{3} {COOCH}_{3} \to {({CH}_{3} CO)}_{2} O
