4. Local parameters of an agitation system

Local analysis of agitated tank behavior offers several advantages. Knowing the velocity field at any point in the tank gives access to the overall circulation, the location of dead liquid zones and zones with high velocity gradients. Knowing the velocity field induced by an agitator enables you to choose the position and type of agitator best suited to a given process: suspension, dispersion of solid particles, or dispersion of bubbles or drops. Knowledge of the turbulent field makes it possible to quantify mixing by estimating the characteristic scales of energetic vortices, the associated energy level, the rate of viscous dissipation of kinetic energy and the shear rate.

To access local quantities, experimental analysis is essential (§ 4.1
