3. Glossary

Reforming; reforming

Steam reforming of natural gas or naphtha is a chemical reaction that produces the dihydrogen used in ammonia synthesis.

Gasification: gasification

Gasification is a thermochemical process that converts carbonaceous or organic materials (e.g. coal, biomass) into a synthesis gas composed mainly of carbon monoxide and dihydrogen.

Partial oxidation: partial oxidation

This is a substoichiometric chemical reaction of heavy fuels in the presence of oxygen, producing synthesis gases (e.g. dihydrogen) used in ammonia synthesis.

Turbo-alternator: turbo generator

It is used in ammonia production plants and consists of the combination of a turbine and an alternator to transform the thermal power of steam...
