Engineering methods used in the implementation of process control systems cover several aspects of the process: selection of sensors and actuators, definition of controlled variables and their ranges, selection of manipulated variables, construction and identification of dynamic process models, synthesis and optimization of controllers, programming of human-machine interfaces, staff training, etc. All stages that utilize information from or destined for the process can benefit from machine learning methods.
