1. Objective

A catalytic reactor is to be designed for the dehydrogenation of ethanol. The specifications specify that 20 t per hour of a water-ethanol mixture with 95% ethanol by mass should be processed.

Franckearts and Froment [1] studied the catalytic dehydrogenation reaction of ethanol and found, for a temperature below 300 ˚C and for a copper oxide catalyst containing 5% cobalt oxide and 1% chromium oxide, that it obeyed only the following stoichiometric scheme: CH3CH2OHCH3CHO+H2(A) (R) (S)
