3. Outlook

Currently, much combustion research is based on the formation of the first aromatic ring (C 6 H 6 and C 6 H 5 ) and heavier compounds such as PAHs and soot. The techniques used (reactors, compression systems, burners) enable hydrocarbons to be analyzed under different and complementary experimental conditions.

It appears that the formation of the first aromatic ring plays an essential role in the production of polycyclic aromatic compounds. Much work has been carried out to establish the process by which benzene and the phenyl radical are formed, but the latter still remains uncertain.
