Recyclable materials can be brittle (glass, ceramics, cast iron), ductile (metals or plastics, polymers, etc.) or elastic (plastomers). Mineral crushing and grinding equipment, working in the brittle fracture domain, is often ineffective in fragmenting recovered materials, for which shear and attrition forces must be brought into play.
