5. Conclusion
Microreactors represent a new class of reactors capable of providing better control of fluid and solute transport phenomena, rapid chemical reactions and reduced costs compared with conventional reactors. Their advantages - reduced use of solvents, energy and raw material savings - have been clearly established in several areas of chemistry, such as analytical chemistry and organic synthesis. Interest has been shown in the optimization of several transfers commonly encountered in industry, leading to the design of new heat exchangers, absorption processes and chemical reactors.
Since 2007, thanks to the establishment of the first European networks and the strong dynamism of Europe –, particularly Germany –, the United States and Japan, their development has accelerated in three directions:
