2. Organic surface functionalization
Various approaches have been developed to form thin (1 μm to 100 nm) or ultra-thin (10 nm to 1 nm) organic films on surfaces. A distinction can be made between so-called physisorption methods, which involve low binding energies between the surface and the organic film (of the order of a few kJ · mol –1 ), and chemisorption or rather chemigrification methods, for which the energy values are much more substantial, of the order of a hundred kJ · mol –1 . Establishing a strong chemical bond between the surface and the organic layer is necessarily an advantage, as it guarantees greater stability of the interface formed and therefore greater robustness of the layers.
