2. Polyalkylene terephthalates (PET, PTT and PBT)

2.1 Presentation

These semi-aromatic polyesters have the general formula : $—O—CO—Ar—CO—O— {({CH}_{2})}_{n} —$

with n =2 (PET), 3 (PTT) or 4 (PBT) and Ar = C ₆ H ₄

They practically meet the definition of polyester for fibers, as laid down by the BISFA (Bureau International des Standards des Fibres Artifelles):
