6. Obstacles to the deployment of intensification and prospects

6.1 Brakes

The obstacles to the deployment of intensification have various origins: technical, economic and cultural.

On the technical side, the first obstacle is to have the basic data to understand where the limiting stage in the process is and to remedy it. A poor diagnosis leads to poor remedies! What's more, acquiring this data can lead to prohibitive development times. On the other hand, the batch-continuous transition can either lead to setbacks, e.g. with the maintenance of an impurity throughout the process, or the concentration of an impurity after recycling in the process, or generate problems of precise dosing of the reagents in relation to each other, e.g. to comply as precisely as possible with a given stoichiometry.
