6. Glossary – Definitions

Color index (CI)

Reference database maintained jointly by the Society of Dyers and Colourists and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. The index serves as a reference database of manufactured colors and associated products (dispersants, solvents, fillers, etc.).

Products are listed according to generic names and numbers, with the prefix CI or C.I. A detailed record of products on the market is presented under each Color Index reference. Colorants authorized for use in cosmetics (and their CI) are listed in Annex IV of the Cosmetic Regulations.)
