3. Conclusion
One of the major challenges facing the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries in the 21st century is to replace synthetic and petroleum-based derivatives with new renewable, non-toxic, biodegradable raw materials derived from agro-resources. Today's pharmaceutical industry is therefore in great demand for biosourced excipients, which must be at least as functional as, if not superior to, petrochemical or synthetic derivatives, without being harmful from an environmental point of view.
