2. Frequency drift management devices

Achieving optimum compression is one of the main difficulties of the CPA technique. While it's relatively easy to stretch a pulse, it's much more difficult to compensate for all the dispersion terms during compression. In this chapter, we look at the technological solutions used to manage dispersion in a CPA system.

2.1 Highly dispersive systems

The extremely high stretch factors required for the CPA technique necessitate the use of highly dispersive devices. In fact, there are many ways of creating highly dispersive systems, using massive diffraction gratings, fibered or volume Bragg gratings, prisms, grisms (grating prisms) or dispersive mirrors.
