6. Conclusion

Waveguides are commonly used as optical fibers to transmit light by means of trapping and total internal transmission. As a result, waveguides are mainly used for laser applications. This article shows that it is possible to use this technology with a different geometry to target new applications. To develop these new planar waveguides, we had to think about the materials used for both the matrix and the fluorophore. We also had to think about how to manufacture and integrate the fluorophores into the supporting matrix.

This new application is constantly evolving, in synergy with the development of new fluorophores whose optical properties are constantly being improved.
