2. Principle and Production Process of PBF-LB

2.1 General Principle

The PBF-LB process involves using a laser to deliver energy in a targeted manner to a powder bed in order to selectively solidify a 2D section of the part to be manufactured. This causes the material to melt locally through absorption of the laser energy. This operation is repeated until the component is fully built up by layering.

After each layer is fused, the build platform is lowered by a predetermined height to allow a new layer of powder to be deposited. The laser then performs another selective pass to fuse an additional section of the component.
