1. Prerequisites for energy-efficient renovation of educational buildings

1.1 Characterization

An example of how to characterize the performance of existing buildings is provided by a decision-support tool for the energy rehabilitation of educational buildings. The "Energy Concept Adviser" (ECA) tool was developed as part of the work of the International Energy Agency.

This tool can be used to pose and solve a multi-criteria energy rehabilitation problem (figure 1 ). It is based on the complementary methodological foundations of multi-criteria approaches (table 1 ).
