4. Permanent soil runoff

4.1 Purpose of soil hydraulics

The aim of soil hydraulics is to characterize permanent (time-independent) flows in soils, taking into account the boundary conditions of the problems being analyzed:

  • distribution of hydraulic loads and interstitial pressures ;

  • flow velocity fields ;

  • flow rates.

For example, it can be used to solve the following problems:

  • calculating the flow to be pumped to dewater a pit;

  • calculating the leakage rate of a dam due to water flowing through the dam and into the foundation soil;

  • study of the effects...
