2. Composition of aluminum alloys

An alloy is made up of three types of additions:

  • alloying elements, which determine the alloy family;

  • additions, which are added to modify certain properties ;

  • impurities.

2.1 Alloy elements

They determine the nature of aluminum alloy families and their common basic properties. There are 5 of them:

  • copper ;

  • manganese ;

  • silicon ;

  • magnesium ;

  • zinc.
