3. Creep-resistant steels

Before describing the different steel grades used in creep-resistant constructions, it is useful to briefly recall the metallurgical factors that determine a metal's creep resistance.

3.1 Factors affecting creep resistance

First and foremost, it is interesting to situate the temperature limits usually considered (0.3 T s and 0.8 T s ) in relation to the melting start temperature (the solidus) of steels. We know that iron melts at 1,536 C; for many steels, we can assume that their melting start temperature T s is between 1,500 and 1,400 C, which leads to the table 3 ....
