3. A few examples of Invar applications

This chapter is not intended to be exhaustive, given the sheer number of applications involving Invar or closely related derivatives. The few examples are chosen with a view to illustrating the major characteristics demanded by each case, from thermal expansion, of course, which alone very generally motivates the choice of alloy, to the ancillary properties often indispensable, either in the finished device (use properties), or in the transformation or manufacturing processes (intermediate properties) of the latter.

So, in the course of these examples, we'll take a look at many of the properties of this surprising alloy.
