7. Applications

The choice of microalloying depends on the type of steel and its use.

Depending on the application, it will be :

  • or for additional hardening;

  • or to partially substitute an element whose content must be lowered;

  • or to take advantage of the thermomechanical cycle.

In this context, some applications have become classic: this is the case in high-performance steel construction, where requirements for weldability and toughness have led to the almost universal use of these grades.

This is not the case for other sectors, such as pressure vessels or engineering steels.
