1. Role of the attack system

Filling is carried out in a mold, usually from a ladle, via a set of tanks and ducts which we will refer to hereafter as the etching system.

Terminology

The term "coulée" is sometimes used synonymously with "remplissage" (filling), but its meaning is often restrictive. It is, however, used in expressions that are established by usage, such as "coulée en chute", "coulée en source", etc.

Casting, filling or etching system or device are synonymous terms.

A distinction is made between filling and feeding, an operation designed to compensate for variations in part volume during cooling, in the liquid state and during solidification
