assembling; joining
The aim of assembly is to join two or more parts together to form a more complex part. Various processes can be used for this purpose, including :
solid-phase assembly processes: shrinking, screwing, bonding by cross-linking a polymer film, assembly by plastic (co-)deformation (riveting, stapling, crimping, clinching, friction welding, friction stir welding, etc.), diffusion welding, brazing, etc;
assembly processes involving partial melting of parts: electric arc welding, laser or electron beam welding, ultrasonic welding, electric current welding, etc.
