2. Application to the choice of conditions for numerical simulation

2.1 Mesh definition

Meshing conditions are often decisive for the quality of the results obtained by numerical simulation. In particular, it is important to adjust the mesh size on both sides of the contact. Meshes in the vicinity of the metal and tool surfaces that come into contact must not be too thick to ensure a good description of thermal contact phenomena. An approximate criterion is that their height δe should be of the order of magnitude of the thermal penetration depth during a calculation time increment δt :
