4. Metallurgical weldability. Tests

In the introduction to this text, we recalled the general definition of weldability as proposed by the IIS.

In practice, these very general considerations break down into more specific notions of the various problems that may be encountered by the designer, builder and user of a welded construction. Thus, we usually consider :

  • operative weldability, which characterizes the possibility of using a process to produce an assembly in a given metal under the conditions imposed (shape of assemblies, positions, etc.);

  • metallurgical weldability (also known as local weldability), which characterizes a metal's ability to withstand without damage all the consequences of the metallurgical phenomena generated by a welding operation;
