5. Advantages and disadvantages compared with other processes

Nitrogen's natural properties offer numerous advantages in stripping and cleaning operations, not least environmental ones. Nitrogen has no harmful effects on the environment: it is completely dry, chemically inert, has no calorific effect, and has no effect on the greenhouse effect or the ozone layer.

Nitrogen-jet technology does not present any health hazard for operators, as long as the technology is not used in confined spaces. In the latter case, it is necessary to install suitable ventilation or to measure oxygen levels. In indoor areas, oxygen detectors and gas badges must be used by operators in the work area, along with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect against the risk of cryogenic burns or flying debris. If the above measures are not possible, the operator must be equipped with a self-contained breathing apparatus.
