With the exception of thermomechanical treatments carried out in the hot forming process (rolling, forging, closed-die forging) with inherited work hardening, several families of purely thermal treatments can be distinguished, depending on their metallurgical purpose. réf. .
Homogenization treatments or annealing. Carried out at the highest temperatures in the solid range, these treatments are primarily designed to reduce the composition gradients resulting from solidification by diffusion.
