The profile of the blast furnace is determined by the design and internal dimensions of the new refractory lining, which delimits the metallurgical volume in which the cast iron is produced (figure

). The influence of the profile on blast furnace performance is difficult to pinpoint, but unfortunate experiences have demonstrated the need to choose the profile with care
