3. Chromium metal production

There are currently three industrial processes for manufacturing chromium metal, shown in figure 3 and detailed in figure 4 :

  • by electrolysis of Cr 3+ ferrochrome FeCr or chromite ;

  • by aluminothermy of chromium oxide Cr 2 O 3 ;

  • by electrolysis of Cr 6+ chromic acid CrO 3 .
