5. Electrodes
The electrodes consist of a carbon paste which, after firing, has undergone a graphitization treatment. They wear out during melting and are periodically lengthened by cutting from the top, the junction between the electrode in use and the new electrode section being screwed together using a truncated cone-shaped connecting piece, called a nipple.
