7. Managing risks related to nickel production and use

Like all industries, the nickel industry (production and processing of the metal and its alloys or compounds) is concerned with the safety of its employees and customers, and with protecting the quality of the environment.

7.1 Protecting people at work

It is beyond the scope of this document to cover all the classic aspects of workplace safety, which are common to virtually all industries and which, in the specific case of nickel, are in fact the main concern. In fact, the risks inherent in the metal itself or its compounds are relatively limited to certain very specific cases (potential toxicity through ingestion, skin contact and inhalation).
