2. Physico-chemical analysis. Structure and ageing

Although the main industrial issue is to maintain mechanical performance, the physico-chemical aspect of ageing phenomena must absolutely be taken into account and studied in order to produce realistic and reliable behaviour prediction models.

The behavior is studied by defining a theoretical network representative of the chemical structure.

2.1 Mass evolution of materials

Gravimetric monitoring of CMOs, although reflecting a macroscopic phenomenon, is the first inexpensive and easy-to-use means of monitoring aging behavior. It provides information on water absorption, thermal degradation, erosion and molecule extraction (chemical degradation, additive extraction, etc.).
