The goal here is to replace metal or concrete structures in order to reduce maintenance (such as regular painting of metal surfaces), and to create lighter yet rigid and durable structures that offer long-term resistance to weather and harsh chemicals.

  • Electric poles and towers: Pultruded profiles can be used to construct even very tall electric towers, thanks to their high rigidity and electrical insulation.

    Various companies sell fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) utility and telephone poles that can replace concrete poles, which are heavy and difficult to install.

    The excellent dielectric properties of these poles eliminate the need to ground them.
