9. Corrosion monitoring

There are several corrosion monitoring methods that can be used to assess the integrity of the producer and injector wells. Some of these include:

  • casing Log whereby the tubing is pulled and a casing inspection tool using electromagnetic sensors is pulled through the intermediate casing. A baseline casing inspection is recommended at the start of a well’s life, as the baseline “signature” can be used to validate metal loss indications on subsequent logs;

  • visual inspection of the producer tubing and ESP may be carried out during routine maintenance of the ESP. Furthermore, a portable tubing inspection rig using electromagnetic techniques can be used to scan the ID/OD wall surfaces;

  • ultrasonic, radiographic, and visual inspection may be performed on the wellhead equipment (valves,...
