3. Damage to organic-bonded coatings on masonry

3.1 Classification of paint products used on masonry

Products are classified in accordance with European standard NF EN 1062-1 "Paints and varnishes – Paint products and coating systems for exterior masonry and concrete – Part 1: Classification".

Leaving aside waterproof coatings, which are tested on substrates with 0.25 mm cracks, there are three product categories.

The first two must be applied in accordance with the technical rules specified in DTU 59-1: microporous paints on the one hand, and semi-thick coatings on the other.

The third product category is "thick plastic coatings" (RPE), to be used in accordance with the technical rules of DTU 59-2.
