3. Technical management of structures in service

Approaches to the technical management of structures depend on their nature and importance. Here, we'll look at two approaches in detail: the one implemented for bridges and viaducts, subject to corrosion associated with chlorides (de-icing salts or marine environment), and the one implemented by EDF to manage the ageing of its cooling towers (corrosion associated with concrete carbonation).
